Sri Lanka to Lease 108 Acre Land in Hambantota to Private Investors

MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka's Urban Development Authority will offer a 108 acre bloc of land in Hambantota for industrial development of to set up a container yard, Cabinet spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa said.

The land in Kelyapura Grama Niladhari Division is within the Central Commercial Zone of the Greater Hambantota Development Plan, gazetted by the UDA.

The 108 acre, 3 roods, and 37.85 perches, will be given on a 50-year lease to investors.

A committee, appointed to recommend productive uses for idle UDA lands, has proposed that this site is ideal for an industrial and container-related development project.

The Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development will call for investment proposals through an international competitive bidding process. (Colombo/June16/2026)
