Sri Lanka to Borrow $200mn From ADB for Ditwah Rebuilding

MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka plans to borrow 200 million dollars from the Asian Development Bank to rebuild infrastructure and housing damaged by Cyclone Ditwah, Cabinet spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa said.

The project will rebuild highways, irrigation systems and housing damaged by the cyclone and also help restore livelihoods.

Of the total 100 million dollar will come from the ADB's Ordinary Capital Resources window.

The balance 100 will come from the Concessionary Ordinary Capital Resources window.

The ADB has agreed to Sri Lanka's request to provide the funds under ‘Post Ditwah Cyclone Renovation and Livelihood Assistance Project’.

A post disaster estimate had found that 2.1 billion dollars in damage and 1.4 billion dollars in economic losses had been suffered due to Cyclone Ditwah. (Colombo/June16/2026)
