MONETABRIEF - Sri Lanka's rupee closed at 335.10/25 to the US dollar Monday in the spot market stronger from 335.35/45 while longer tenor bond yields fell, dealers said.

The central bank has been aggressively preventing the rupee from strengthening buying dollars at 335.35 rupee levels and creating money, resisting a 'positive' external shock (monetizing balance of payments surplus) as foreigners bought into rupee bonds.

But earlier in the rupee the rupee was busted by cutting rates and not honoring its own notes during a 'negative' external shock earlier in the year.
