MONETABRIEF – Vietnam based Vietjet Air made its maiden flight to Sri Lanka with an Airbus A320-214 landing in Colombo on August 17.
The first flight was welcomed with a water cannon salute, Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited, the state airport company said in a social media post.
Sri Lanka's Deputy Tourism Minister Ruwan Ranasinghe, Vietnam's Ambassador to Colombo, Trinh Thi Tam and airline officials were on hand to welcome the first passengers.
Viejet Air is flying on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays to Colombo from Ho Chi Minh City.
The flights depart Saigon airport at 1815 hours and arrives in Colombo at 2150 hours.
The aircraft leaves Colombo at 2300 hours and lands in HCMC at 0555h the following day.
Vietjet Air is also planning to fly to Maldives allowing travel agents in Vietnam to structure multi-country packages for Vietnamese and foreign tourists.
