MONETABRIEF – Landslides from Cyclone Ditwah hit two mini hydro plants of Sri Lanka's Hunas Holdings, with one plant severely damaged, the firm said.
Weswin Power Galaha, was saw "significant landslide damage", Chairman Dhanuka Samarasinghe told shareholders in the annual report.
"Following a strategic assessment, the asset was disposed of at cost, thereby avoiding any further financial exposure to the Group’s balance sheet," Samarasinghe said.
" Galabodawatta Power also experienced significant damage from landslides, affecting generation during the year.
"These operational challenges, together with delays in receivables from the Ceylon Electricity Board, placed temporary pressure on the sector’s financial performance and liquidity."
Other plants in the group were Kurganga Hydro, Eratne Power is a smaller plant whose output has shown sensitivity to rainfall variation in its catchment area over the past two financial years and the latest Galabodawatta.
Kurganga Hydro generation fell 7.4 percent with lower rainfall. Eratne Power saw 12.5 percent fall on top of an 11.3 percent fall in the previous year with reduced rainfall.
Galbodawatte saw 5.9 percent increase and recorded a 34 percent plant factor in the full year. In the 2025/26 year the plants had generated 17.2 Giga Watt hours of energy. (Colombo/Sept06/2026)
