MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka has decided to spend 95 million dollars out of a 100 million dollar short term credit line from India to import vehicles to bolter public services in Ditwah cyclone hit areas, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said.
Out of a 100 million US dollar short term Ditwah credit offered by India, 5 million US dollars would be spent on hybrid livestock.
The balance $95mn would be spent on ambulances, gully suckers, single cab trucks and tippers.
A joint cabinet paper was submitted by Finance Ministry to purchase the vehicles for agencies coming under the ministries of Defence, Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Public Administration and Provincial Councils.
India has separately also offered a longer term 250 million US dollar credit.
In Sri Lanka top Indian heavy vehicle brands such as Ashok Leyland is represented by Lanka Ashok Leyland, and Tata by Dimo, both listed companies. (Colombo/Sept27/2026)
