MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka's rupee weakened to 331.55/65 to the US dollar in mid-morning trade after opening at 331.35/45 dealers said, while bonds were steady.

The interbank market has high levels of excess liquidity, which the central bank tends to dishonor when they turn into credit, debasing the currency when credit picks up or foreign investors sell.

However when foreign investors buy, appreciation is resisted and excess liquidity is created.

Bond markets opened largely unchanged.

A bond maturing on 01 August 2030 was quoted at 11.40/50 percent, down from Friday’s close of 11.50/55 percent.

A bond maturing on 15 October 2030 was quoted at 11.50/55 percent, unchanged.

A bond maturing on 01 February 2031 was quoted at 11.60/65 percent, unchanged from Friday’s close.

A bond maturing on 15 October 2034 was quoted at 12.30/35 percent, from 12.30/33 percent.

A bond maturing on 15 March 2035 was quoted at 12.35/45 percent, up from 12.25/30 percent. (Colombo/Oct19/2026)
