MONETABRIEF - Sri Lanka's National System Operator has said a tariff hike would not be needed for the fourth quarter of 2026 due to excessive rain from El Niño.
NSO said it was not requesting an increase with high water storage and forecasted above normal rainfall under prevailing El Niño conditions.
Sri Lanka usually gets more rain during the wet season in the latter part of the year due to El Niño and extremely dry conditions in the first quarter of the following year.
The information was conveyed during a public hearing called by the Public Utility Commission of Sri Lanka on the fourth quarter tariff filing, the NSO said in a statement.
The NSO had earlier submitted a tariff filing showing an increase of 2.88 percent in costs.
The PUCSL said it was not allowing a 1.1 billion rupees in loan repayments for a Asian Development Bank funded project. (Colombo/Nov05/2026)
