Published Friday, 10th July 2026 5:23 PM

MONETABRIEF – Construction of a water supply project that can serve 67,000 households was kicked off in Anuradhapura at a ceremony attended by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Chargé d'Affaires at the Japanese embassy Kamashida Naoaki.

The project is financed by a 23 billion yen concessional loan loan (143 million US dollars), the Japanese embassy said.

The project aims to provide a stable supply of safe drinking water households in the Anuradhapura District, where communities have long suffered from chronic fluorosis and kidney disease.

With an already completed phase the total project will deliver safe water access to over 75,000 households.

This project will also provide an essential foundation for agricultural and industrial development in the region while contributing to an improved quality of life for local residents. (Colombo/July10/2026)
