MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka has cut petrol prices by 20 rupees to 414 rupees a liter and auto diesel by 25 rupees to 382 rupees a litre, state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation said.
Petrol Octane Euro 4 remains at 495 rupees a litre, the agency said in a statement.
Diesel Euro 4 remains at 285 rupees a litre.
Lanka Kerosene remains at 285 rupees.
Sri Lanka hiked fuel prices after a war in the Middle East pushed up import costs and is now bringing them down.
However the central bank has depreciated the rupee to around 335 rupees from 300 over the past year, by using arbitrary exchange rate policy denying monetary stability.
Macro-economists have spread a narrative that the rupee is 'market determined' though the central bank aggressively buys dollar and prints money to prevent appreciation at various depreciated exchange rates.
Last week also the central bank was also buying dollars up to 334 preventing appreciation. (Colombo/June30/2026)
