MONETABRIEF – Exports from Sri Lanka to Iran, a neighbor of Iran where ports are blockaded by the US amid hostilities, have grown 98.3 percent to 123 million US dollars in the six months to June, the island's Export Development Board said.
In June alone exports grew 74.3 percent to 26.9 million US dollars.
Tea exports to Turkey grew 108.99 percent in June 2026, with exports to in the six months growing 139.16 percent.
Turkey has a land border with Iran and has historically been a destination that re-routes products.
Exports to Pakistan, which also shares a land border with Iran, also grew 87.3 percent reaching a modest volume of 8.92 million dollars.
In the first six months total exports to Pakistan grew 42.87 percent to 47.59 million dollars. Growth was seen in textile articles, betel leaves, desiccated coconut, and other articles of stone, the EDB said.
Meanwhile the UAE, which serves as a logistics hub for the region, has been hit with exports falling 26.7 percent in June.
Up to June exports were down 9.92 percent, the EDB said. (Colombo/July24/2026)
