Sri Lanka FIU Fines CDB Over Business With UN Sanctioned Individuals

MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka's Financial Intelligence Unit said it had find Citizens Development Business Finance, three million rupees over failing to report and freeze assets of three UN sanctioned individuals with which it had relationships.

The three were individuals designated under United Nations Regulations No. 1 of 2012 (UNSCR 1373).

There were gaps in the procedures which had been revealed in an on-site examinations.

Ten other entities, including finance companies and jewellers were also fined for gaps in procedure including failure to maintain a list of designated persons or failure to report transactions above a million rupees to the FIU.

L B Finance was fined one million rupees, Cargills Bank two million, LOLC Securities two million, Janashakthi Finance one million, Indian Overseas Bank one million, Sanasa Life Insurance two million,.

Colombo Jewellery Store was fined 500,000 rupees, Zay's (Pvt) Ltd 100,000, Swarnamahal Jewellers 2 million and Harbhour Village (Pvt) Ltd, one million. (Colombo/July20/2026)
