MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka's cabinet has decided to call bids from only local contractors to build the first phase of the Section 04 of the Central Expressway, spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa said.
The cabinet had decided to finance Section 04 which runs from Kurunegala to Dambulla with domestic funds.
Phase 01, which will be 38.5 kilometres long (from 70 to 116.5 km posts), will run from Kurunegala to Galewela.
' The cabinet on March 03, 2026 decided to build Section 04 of the expressway with local funding.
A committee appointed for economic management by the cabinet had decided to build the section in two phases.
The Section 01 is being financed by the Exim Bank of China. (Colombo/July04/2026)
