MONETABRIEF - A delegation from China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), a top state enterprise that has already invested in Sri Lanka has met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, his media office said.

The delegation led by Zhang Bingnan, focused on projects currently being implemented and proposed future projects centred on Colombo Port City.

CCCC is the ultimate parent company of China Harbhour Engineering Corporation (CHEC) which reclaimed the Port City and has rights to sell land on leases to recover its investment.

The delegation discussed "expanding investment opportunities in Sri Lanka in the areas of renewable energy, trade and logistics and digital services," the statement said.

"They noted that Sri Lanka has the potential to position itself as a regional hub in these sectors and attract further investment."

The Chinese firm has said that 90 percent of the workforce employed in their projects would be sourced locally.

Expats are usually paid higher salaries, bringing higher taxes and domestic spending. (Colombo/Aug12/2026)
