MONETABRIEF – A cruise service between Colombo and the North of Sri Lanka is under development, Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe said.
The project has been approved by the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka.
"Very soon the development will be started," Deputy Minister Ruwan Ranasinghe told parliament Thursday.
"We hope with this actually significant traffic from South to North will be available once the cruise service has started."
There were other projects aimed at developing tourism in the North and East, he said.
The Delft Island has been identified for tourism development as a carbon neutral destination.
The Asian Development Bank and World Bank funded projects in the pipeline, he said. (Colombo/Oct08/2026)
