Foreign Shareholder Exits Sri Lanka's Commercial Credit in Rs9bn Deal

MONETABRIEF – A key foreign shareholder of Sri Lanka based Commercial Credit and Finance has sold down its stake in a 9 billion rupee deal, driving up turnover and interest in the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Colombo-based Asia Securities arranged a consortium of local investors to buyout the foreign shareholder, Group Lease Holdings, in what the firm said was the largest book building exercise in the country.

A 28 percent stake was sold, Asia said.

Group Lease Holdings, which is in liquidation earlier could not exit amid a court case.

Turnover rose to 12.23 billion rupees on Thursday.

The Colombo All Share Index closed up 102.73 points (0.49-pct).

Commercial Credit closed up 1.75 rupees at 107.50.

The stock came down in recent day ahead of the sale. (Colombo/Aug06/2026)
