MONETABRIEF – Ocean Voyager International (Pvt) Ltd, a yacht manufacturer based in Koggala, Sri Lanka has exported its first amphibious craft to Europe, a statement from the Ministry of Industries said.
Ocean Voyager International is known for producing luxury catamaran yachts. The firm was founded by Pierre Pringiers, a Belgian national who set up Sri Lanka's largest solid tyre manufacturing firm which was later bought by Michelin.
The amphibious launch has retractable tracks on either side of its single hull which can be used to climb out of the water and move over solid ground.
Industries Minister Sunil Handuneththi who visited the yard to inspect the craft said the government would provide the required support to make Sri Lanka a boat – building hub.
Pringiers, who also chairs the Sri Lanka Leisure Yachting Group has been trying to promote the sector in an island which is surrounded by sea but, there is no active tradition of yachting. Sri Lanka's its marine economy is below potential analysts. (Colombo/Sept11/2026)
