Sri Lanka Makes First Export of Pineapples to Pakistan

MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka based C R Exports (Pvt) Ltd, has made the first every shipment of Pineapples to Pakistan, the island's Export Development Board said.

Pakistan now imports between 2,000 to 5,000 tonnes of Pineapple mainly from Thailand and the Philippines value around 10 million US dollars.

Sri Lanka now exports around 2 million dollars of Pineapple products.

Efforts are also underway to explore opportunities for introducing other agricultural products, including avocados and oranges, to Pakistan, the EDB said.

Pineapple exports to Pakistan were supported by the EDB, Sri Lanka High Commission in Pakistan, the Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lana, the Department of Commerce, Department of Agriculture and the National Plant Quarantine Service (NPQS).

To approve export process, Mohammad Aqeed, Entomologist of the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of Pakistan, had visited Sri Lanka to inspect and audit the pineapple orchards and pack houses.

After a evaluating inflation gathered from Sri Lanka Pakistani authorities granted approval for the importation of fresh pineapples from Sri Lanka, subject to the issuance of a Phytosanitary Certificate by the National Plant Quarantine Service (NPQS) of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka ensures that all fresh pineapples exported from the country are sourced from Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)-certified fields, with producers and exporters registered with the Department of Agriculture (DoA). (Colombo/Aug21/2026)
