MONETABRIEF – A massive avalanche, believed to have been triggered by an earthquake in the Tibet-Nepal border, has killed and left missing hundreds including foreign tourists from India and other countries, media reports said.
The South China Morning Post said the disaster struck Nepa and spilled over to Gyirong county in the Tibet autonomous region including at a border checkpoint in the administered by the city of Shigatse.
Footage circulating online showed a tsunmi-like mudslide hitting the checkpoint.
Other footage also showed mud and water sweeping across valleys tossing aside buildings. (Colombo/Aug26/2026)
