MONETABRIEF β Three officials or ex-official who were in a list of individuals against whom allegations were being probed or cases filed should not have been included, Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake said.
Early in October Minister Rathnayake tabled a list of 50 individuals against whom he said cases were filed or allegations probed.
"I have concerns over three names," he told parliament Thursday. "Especially Ms Rupavathi Kethiswaran, Thilan Wijesinghe and Jayantha Fernando, a former additional secretary.
"I have listed their names also. They may be ex or current officials, but they are not needed to make my case.
"So if there was any damage caused to them, I regret that."
"What I wanted to say was that the cases are not being pursued to take revenge, but various investigations are being done on events that had taken place over the years."
Separately Thilan Wijesinghe said he welcomed Minister Rathnayake's statement and hhad written to him seeking an investigation into how his name had been included in the list.
"My understanding is that knowingly supplying false information to an elected member or public servant may constitute an offence under the Penal Code," he said in a statement.
The list tabled in Parliament had referred to High Court Case No. HC/9021/2018, allegedly filed on 14 February 2018.
Wijesinghe said his Attorneys had found that the such a case number did not exist in the High Court Registry
He has also been informed that about 850 cases were filed in the High Court in 2018, making the cited case number inconsistent with the Courtβs records. (Colombo/Oct22/2026)
