Sri Lanka Launches $23Mn Tourism Promotion Campaign

MONETABRIEF - Sri Lanka's tourism promotion office has lunched a 7.5 billion rupee (about $22.6 million) promotional campaign to boost the nation's image and draw more tourists, Deputy Tourism Minister Ruwan Ranasinghe said.

A 1.5 billion Sri Lanka rupee campaign is launched targeting six countries which will run till April 2027 and a 5 billion rupee campaign will kick off from then, to target high spenders and niche sectors like marine and wellness tourism, Ranasinghe said.

Authorities hope to complete the procurement of agencies, production houses to be ready to launch the global campaign by April 2027.

In 2027 Sri Lanka is targeting $5 billion in tourism revenues up from $4.2 billion in 2026.

The campaign aims keep annual arrivals over 3 million, spread them throughout the year, increase per-tourist revenue and also put less well-known locations on the map to widen the industtry across the island, Buddhika Hewawasam said.

Sri Lanka will hold road shows, do fam tours, and is also singing with major airlines to do joint campaigns in addition to digital promotions.

Authorities will work directly platforms like Meta, Tiktok in the promotion. (Colombo/Aug19/2026)
