MONETABRIEF - Sri Lanka's rupee closed at 332.60/70 to the US dollar in the spot market Thursday, weakening from Wednesday's close of 332.50/60, dealers said, while bond yields edged up on longer maturities.
The rupee is down from 332.15/25 to US dollar last Friday.
Over 2025 and 2026 the rupee was busted by dishonoring notes printed by monetizing balance of payments surpluses.
In 2026 when the rupee suddenly collapsed from the inflation biased operating framework and now as it depreciates excess liquidity is generated from dollar purchase and buy-sell fx swaps.
