Sri Lanka Treasuries Yields Extend Fall

Published Thursday, 27th August 2026 5:29 AM

MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka's Treasuries yields continued to fall at Monday's auction, held earlier in a holiday week, with the 3-month yield falling faster, data from the state debt office showed.

The 3-month yield fell to 9.06 percent from 9.22 percent with all 50 billion rupees in offered bills sold.

The 6-month bill fell to 9.44 percent from 9.60 percent with all offered 35 billion rupees sold.

The 12-month bill fell 2 basis points to 9.89 percent with all offered 35 billion rupees in bills sold.

The 120 billion rupee multiple price auction drew 342 billion rupees in bids.

Excess liquidity has built up in money markets, amid foreign investor purchase after confidence in the rupee was restored by ending money and exchange policy conflicts and a rate hike.

However amid aggressive exchange rate policy (dollar purchases) excess liquidity has gone up. (Colombo/Aug26/2026)
