MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has ordered telcos to block access to 24 unlicensed online gaming platforms which can be used by customers in the island, the Ministry of Digital Economy said.
The TRCSL has issued the orders on a request of the newly set up Gambling Regulatory Authority.
In Sri Lanka gaming is not legal except for several operators that have got licenses where they have built physical casinos.
The following portals were banned.

Some online betting portals are operated by licensed companies in jurisdictions like the UK which are aimed their own countries.
However there are criminal syndicates which operate gaming platforms from third countries exclusively targeting jurisdictions where gaming is illegal or only sports betting is allowed. (Colombo/Aug05/2026)
