Sri Lanka's Bank of Ceylon to Sell Forever Bonds

MONETABRIEF - Sri Lanka's state-run Bank of Ceylon said it had decided to sell 10 billion rupees of Basle II compliant perpetual bonds which will pay a floating interest rate to boost Tier 1 capital.

The bonds will have call option if the bank wants to redeem them sometime in the future, the lender said in a stock exchange filing.

The bond however will be not be listed.

Banks in Sri Lanka has in the past issued mostly redeemable bonds to boost Tier II capital.

The bonds will pay an annual coupon based on the 12-month "net Treasury bill rate plus 2 percent."

The minimum subscription will be one million rupees. (Colombo/Aug18/2026)
