Sri Lanka Stocks Down 1-pct Over Week

MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka stocks fell 0.13 percent Friday, with the Colombo All Share Index falling 1 percent (232.67 points) to close tat 21,172.74 points, Colombo Stock Exchange data showed.

Stocks lost 56 billion rupees in value ending at 7,755 billion rupees.

The S&P SL 20 Index of more liquid stocks were also down 0.95 percent.

Sri Lanka stocks are down 6.42 percent so far in 2026.

Sri Lanka's two years of monetary stability since the 2022 currency ended with the central bank triggering external instability and busting the rupee to 335 levels from 300 to the dollar, destroying wages, purchasing power and lifetime savings.

The price to earnings ratio on trailing reported earnings fell to 11.19 from 11.27 and the market dividend yield improved to 30.2 percent from 3.00.

Foreign purchases were 1.64 billion rupees, outstripping sales of 896 million rupees, against net foreign selling in the previous week.

The top gainer of the week was Nations Trust Bank (X) rising 48.55 rupees to close at 404.25 rupees. (Colombo/July24/2026)
