Three Chinese Suspects In Port City Abduction and Murder Flee Sri Lanka

MONETABRIEF – Three suspects in the murder of a Chinese national abducted from the China-backed Port City in Colombo has fled the country while others are believed to be evading policy in the country, media reports said.

Eight suspects have been identified and a travel ban has been imposed on three Chinese suspects, Sri Lanka's The Island newspaper said.

Two suspects were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport when they were attempting to flee the country.

The report quoted Police Spokesman F U Wootler as saying that the Chinese embassy and Interpol assistance has been sought in the investigation.

A Chinese group abducted another group within the port city.

One person was found dead in Eheliyagoda.

Police have recovered vehicles used in the abduction and killing.

Other reports said the gang was believed to have been engaged in online scams. (Colombo/Aug09/2026)
