MONETABRIEF – Sri Lanka's electricity tariffs will not be revised for the third quarter of 2026, the Public Utilities Commission said, after adjusting costs against government subsidies and brought forward balances.
The generation cost of 159.2 billion rupees were adjusted for 30.1 billion losses in the first quarter from which 3.3 billion rupees of losses from bad coal was deducted taking total costs to be recovered to 186.0 billion rupees.
Revenue from generation and distribution was 156.2 billion for the third quarter.
There was 17.2 billion rupee subsidy from the government for the national systems operator and 9.6 billion rupee subsidy for fuel price adjustments and a 2.5 billion rupee brought forward profit adjustment, which took revenue to 185.6 billion rupees.
The gap was only 417 million rupees. As a result the regulator decided to keep prices fixed. (Colombo/Aug04/2026)
